Welcome to the Orange County Schools

Teacher Collaborative

The site currently provides access to curriculum maps for all grade levels and subject areas. The purpose of this site is to provide an area where teachers can collaborate, discuss and group edit existing and newly created curriculum maps. Teachers can view and comment on maps as they evolve through the collaborative collection process. Curriculum editors can make changes to the maps as suggested by teachers and administrators.

In order to use this area and participate in the curriculum mapping process (or just view the current curriculum maps) you must create an account. Just click the link to the left to get started or login if you already have an account.

What is Curriculum Mapping?

Curriculum mapping is a process. “The best maps provide a structure for identifying the key understandings and essential questions, and for ensuring that they spiral vertically across grade levels – by design – as a means of developing and deepening students’ understanding of important ideas and processes” (Wiggins & McTighe, 2007, p. 75).

Heidi Hayes Jacobs wrote, “Mapping isn't like anything we did 10 years ago. We couldn't have done it then—it's electronic. I can make changes on a curriculum map immediately because I can go to my computer, pull up the map, and enter changes. Standards are not filed away on dusty shelves. We can electronically begin to rethink, renegotiate, look at performance data, and look at changes in the world. Electronic mapping can give teachers immediate and powerful control over the curriculum” (Jacobs, Educational Leadership, 2003/2004, pp. 16-17).
